In response to earlier media reports saying China's Ministry of Railways (MOR) exaggerated the speed of the country's new high-speed trains, an official from the MOR has dismissed such allegations as of Monday, the Beijing News said on Tuesday.

The claims of the former MOR official are groundless, said He Huawu, chief engineer for the MOR, who asserted that China's high-speed trains are fast, comfortable and safe, whose speed may reach 380 kilometers per hour.

He's reaction came as a response to media reports quoting Zhou Yimin, MOR's former deputy chief engineer, as saying that the claims that high-speed trains could run at 350 kilometers per hour were fraudulent.
