Dining at restaurants in hotels is always a bit of an adventure, not least in discovering which cuisine the establishment specializes in.
This all-important decision can depend on a number of factors: the provenance of the hotel’s owners, the brand image the hotel wants to present to customers, or the particular skills of the head chef employed. The Global Times has picked out three hotels in downtown Shanghai to guide you through multiple culinary experiences.

Le Sun Chine
Hidden in an old lane located at the intersection of Huashan Road and Jiangsu Road, the 70-year-old Le Sun Chine is one of the most outstanding historic estates still remaining in Shanghai's former French concession.
Once home to numerous Chinese celebrities and now an elite hotel, Le Sun Chine provides a feeling of "home" for its customers, from its cozy environment to mouthwatering food.
With a delicate blending of Eastern and Western styles, Le Sun Chine features deep-colored antique European furniture as well as some old Shanghai touches in its architecture and design.
The owners refer to their food as Le Sun Chine's Lilac Family Cuisine, denoting high-quality Shanghai-styled dishes. For the upcoming Chinese Mid-autumn Festival (falling on September 12 this year), Le Sun Chine is offering a festival-tailored local dish, duck soup with ham pork and taro, accompanied by a dish of water-cooked green soybeans. The soup is also said to clear toxins from the body and to be beneficial for the spleen.
The menu also includes the usual traditional food that Chinese people eat at this festival. For foreigners, it is an ideal opportunity to try local cuisine.
