The UN climate conference in Durban, South Africa, which was scheduled to end on Friday, was stretched into early Saturday morning and may not be able to close till Saturday afternoon or even later because of the deep divisions among the delegates.
It is reported that a new draft text emerged and has been circulated among the delegates attending the 194-party conference.
Compared with the previous draft, the new one is believed to have adopted the European Union's plan to negotiate a new accord for the post-2020 world.
It calls on the developed countries to step up efforts to cut carbon emissions during the second phase of the Kyoto Protocol, the only global pact that enforces carbon cuts, increase funds and technical aid to developing countries in the fight against global warming.
However, deep divisions remain over whether the EU's "roadmap" for global carbon cuts should be adopted.
