Writer in controversy: Han Han
Left: Mai Tian; Right: Fang Zhouzi; Middle: Han Han

Best-selling author Han Han filed a lawsuit on Jan 29 against Fang Zhouzi, an anti-fraud campaigner who claims that the author did not write the novel that first made him famous.

Han said he kept all the handwritten manuscripts as the evidence, and he had the confidence to win the lawsuit When he receiveding the interview by Xinhua News Agency on Jan 30.

The query to Han Han was first raised by Maitian, an IT commentator and former general manager of Baidu'ssocial network division. He published an article on his blog on Jan 15, which claimed that the image of Han as a public intellectual was made-up and packaged by his father Han Renjun and the well-known publisher Lu Jinbo.

Fang Zhouzi later added fuel to the speculation that famous blogger Han Han uses a ghost writer, finnally resulting in a "big war" on Internet.

"Literature is a dignified art. It is bad for a writer to be questioned that he uses a ghost writer. I feel lucky that I keep the handwritten manuscripts in my early times, and I have confidence to win the lawsuit."
—— Han Han received Xinhua's interview on Jan 30

1,Manuscripts can also be transcribed

2
,Han Han can hardly write middle-age life in his 17 years old.

3
,Loosing case does not indicate failure of query.

1, Han's writing style differs from father’s works.

2
, No one can remember all details when over a decade passed.

3
,Material included in his handwritten manuscripts proves the truth.

Han Han's supporters:

@马日拉, a media person:
The so-called text analysis in Han Han's several articles are all based on his imagination of "How should Shanghai in the 1990's be?" Did you ever visit Shanghai during that time? Or even a remote town 70 to 80 kilometers away from the city then? If not, please stay away from any "text analysis."

@饶雪漫, a famous writer:
I felt bad after reading that Han Han showed his manuscripts and letters posted by his father. What kind of society is this? An author, having written a book after a hard experience, having published it and then having sold it, now has to prove that those characters were written by him. This is not only an insult to Han Han, but to all authors as well.

@路金波, a publisher:
Wang Keqin, Caijing Magazine, and Southern Weekly have put many people in the front-lines of an interview in order to get to the truth, and they take risks. However, the way and direction in which they crack down on frauds is different from what Fang does. All of Fang's resources have come from online public information among which only favorable parts have been accepted, while any sort of field research is lacking. Also, his only tool has been ‘logical' reasoning which we have already witnessed .The audience has more or less the mentality of "novelty" and "rebelliousness" regarding public figures, therefore "guilty reasoning" often wins out. Plus the people who are involved are not likely to take them seriously.

@宁财神, a screenwriter:
Han demonstrates his outstanding eloquence freely in his articles, and his talk show is actually much better than the articles. If people filed away his quotations, each of them would make for an excellent article. Although unfortunately he turned to the "Fifty Cent Party" because of his arrogance, I am definitely sure that all of the words have come from him. For this, I would rather promise to offer my remuneration for the entire year to those who find his ghostwriters.

Fang Zhouzi's supporters:

@彭晓芸, a freelancer:
There is a very easy way: the readers as consumers can prosecute Han Han and his father for being involved in commercial fraud, and then judicial and criminal investigation authorities can test them via fluttering measurements to verify or deny the accusations. If they do not accept the charges, then the consumers can put forth a campaign asking for an investigation. Those who pretend to be tolerant because the length of this battle has consumed their patience while not looking at all the evidence are really deceptive.

@陈东坡, a lawyer:
All of Fang Zhouzi‘s analyses are based on Han's articles and blogs, which mean the "investigation results" may not be reasonable. However, this cannot be the reason for Han to sue Fang, unless Fang makes up rumors or uses abusive words to attack Han.

@王志安, special commentator of CCTV
:
Now Fang Zhouzi raises the question that Han uses a ghost writer. I think this query is still at a low level. However, with Han's reactions and the netizens' investigation, Han will be thought of by normal people as a writer who likes to copy famous quotations in order to write his articles. For Han Han, his God-like image has been broken.

@赵晓, professor of University of Science and Technology Beijing:
From ancient times until now, forgery has been popular in our country, regardless of whether in the government or common people. Commercialization in today's society makes its use more popular. I can only appeal to the people in our country to remain honest even with every little thing.

Mai Tian, an IT commentator

1,The theme for the composition competition that first brought Han to fame in 1999 was set by Li Qigang, a university schoolmate of Han's father.

Han Han wrote the article eloquently and used many literary quotations that could not be understood by most people. "Will a 17-year-old boy be able to write such an improvisational article?"

2,"Lu Jinbo's accurate packaging of Han Han after 2005 greatly boosted Han Han's fame… and took him from the literary field to the political field."

3,Han is a professional racing driver, rather than a writer. “How could he write the articles in the same times as engaging in car racing?”Mai put up a form showing that 13 blog articles were posted on Han's blog at the same time as Han was engaging in car racing.

Han Han, Chinese celebrity writer

1, Han offered a cash reward of 20 million yuan ($3.2 million) to any who could prove that anybody had helped him write articles, or that any media or Internet company had ever received publicity comments from Han or his "team."

"In addition to the reward, I would also stop writing and give the copyright of all my published books as a gift to the informant," he said on his blog.

2, The car racing often takes me a long time to prepare, while it only take one day to compete. In the rest time in the car racing, I am used to write some articles. Many of my works are written in these periods.

@韩仁均, Han Han's father:

Since even Han Han has no longer refrained from speaking out, if you don’t mind, I have a couple things to say as well. First, I think it’s a shame some people are so insecure and paranoid to the point that they imagine everyone is plotting something and is out to get them. Words produced in an absent-minded manner can easily be misinterpreted. Second, Han Han’s writing style has its own characteristics and is quite unique in contemporary Chinese literature.

@路金波, a publisher and one of Han Han's best friends:

If it is as what has been speculated in the media that I am the person who helped Han Han market and brand all his work since 2006, I should have the majority of the profits and returns, which is not true. In fact, I have only been involved with the publication of half of his books. The four books published between 2010 and 2011 were published by other companies.

Lu Jinbo is not Han Han’s agent. As evidence suggests, except his role in helping Han Han sort out the copyright issues for his international release, Han Han’s other business activities such as the spokesperson for commercial products and media contacts, etc, are all handled by Han Han or members of his family. We have more than 500 reporters who have been covering stories about Han Han who can all prove that.

Anyway, Han Han’s style of writing is not easy to imitate.

@李其纲, a famous writer and the claims examiner of Han in the competetion in 1999:

I was only a schoolmate with Han Han’s father for one month at East China Normal University. I don’t really know him personally.

The reason Han Han was given a chance to retake the exam was because of his extraordinary performance in the first round. But I am having second thoughts on the question I brought up. It might have been a bit too easy for Han Han, for his level. I simply devised a topic as a glass half full since I spotted a glass of water in front of me, and then I thought it might work. So I passed the glass to Han Han and asked him to write on that, an object as plain as a half-finished glass of water. This story later on was the origin of one of his most famous works “See through the glass of people.”

@范冰冰工作室, official microblog for famous actress Fan Bingbing:
I'd rather to provide another 20 million yuan to the one who could prove that anybody had helped Han write articles, or that any media or Internet company had ever received publicity comments from Han or his "team' to show my support to Han.

@方舟子, a famous and controversial academic fraud fighter:

Mai Tian questioned the legitimacy of Han Han’s disclosure over whether someone else had been involved in the editing of his personal blog. I looked for the article in question on his blog, but did not find it. I still find it’s quite suspicious to have brought the whole affair under light, but to refuse a full disclosure of the original text.

@Marc Young, a normal microblog user:

I believe that the works of Han Han have been written by himself. However, I think he and his father should directly face the queries. All netizens want to know are the simple facts.
