One of Taiwan's cultural highlights, the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) 2012, opened on Wednesday at the Taipei World Trade Center.

Praised as the most popular book exhibition in Asia, TIBE celebrates its 20th birthday this year, with an impressive lineup of lectures and readings. Over 700 international authors and publishing houses from 60 countries and regions are expected to participate in this year's event.

To echo the event's theme of "Green Reading", the giant LED screen on the city's landmark building Taipei 101, or the Taipei World Financial Center, will present the image of a lush green tree.

The exhibition venue at TIBE is divided into different sections covering various genres including Comic Books, Children's Books and an area displaying book-related artistic works.

The book exhibition saw over 66,000 visitors on its opening day, exceeding the previous record set last year. The exhibition is scheduled to conclude on February 6.
