The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday reported that it has documented seven more deaths in the aftermath of the Feb. 6 strong earthquake in the Central Philippine province of Negros Oriental, bringing the official death toll to 50.
In a report, NDRRMC executive officer and concurrent Office of Civil Defense administrator Benito Ramos said six of the newly- reported fatalities were from Guihulngan City and the other is from Ayungon town.
A total of 112 people have been injured while 66 remain missing, all buried by landslides in Planas village in Guihulngan City and Solongon village in La Libertad town, Ramos said.
Authorities have given up hopes for survivors among the missing and they plan to stop the search and retrieval operations later Friday.
Meanwhile, Ramos said that a total of 14,867 houses were either damaged or destroyed by the calamity.
Also, he said about 52,933 families or 265,335 persons have been affected, of which 8,099 families or 40,035 persons are housed in evacuation centers.
Damage to roads, bridges and public buildings had been pegged at 383 million pesos (about $9 million).
