The troubled Zimbabwe national airline, Air Zimbabwe, on Monday once again failed to resume domestic flights as it announced last week that it would resume flights to Harare, Victoria Falls and Bulawayo.

Air Zimbabwe suspended both domestic and international flights last year when one of its planes was impounded at Gatwick International Airport in London over a debt.

Air Zimbabwe acting chief executive officer Innocent Mavhunga quoted by New Ziana said on Monday the company was addressing the issue as a matter of urgency.

"Unfortunately we could not manage to resume domestic flights today. We are trying to address the issue right now and we are in the process of discussions. We are engaging each other and advising clients of developments," he said.

Despite the government and other organizations pumping in over $31 million into its coffers in the past few years to revive its operations, the airline continues to face numerous challenges including an ageing fleet.

Last year, the entire Air Zimbabwe fleet was grounded for 50 days following a pay dispute. The country has over the years lost a significant number of tourists and business as a result of the airline's incompetence.
