Boston Celtics' star guard Rajon Rondo has been handed a two-game suspension by the association for hitting an official with a game ball, said the NBA team on Monday.

According to the league's disciplinary chiefs, Rondo was banned "for throwing a ball at an official and striking him in the chest" during the Celtics' 96-81 loss to Detroit on Sunday.

The 26-year-old will miss Boston's games at Dallas on Monday and against Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
