The Egyptian Football Federation (EFF) has called off the international build-up against East and Central African champions Uganda that had been slated for Feb. 25 due to security concerns, a senior football official said here on Monday.

Rogers Mulindwa, spokesman for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Uganda's football governing body told Xinhua on Monday that although the team was scheduled to travel on Tuesday, the Egyptians said that the build-up had been called off.

"The Egyptian FA communicated that they cannot risk playing the game in Egypt because the government has notified them that the security is not good yet following the death of over 74 fans during a football match early this month which resulted to riots," Mulindwa said.

He said the Egyptians are trying to work out a possibility of playing the game outside Egypt whose costs will catered for by them.

"We shall know their final word on the next step by tomorrow Tuesday," he said.

Egypt is also trying to use the build-up to prepare its team for a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter against Zimbabwe, while Uganda face Congo Brazzaville away on Feb. 29.

Egypt was also trying to use the game to improve their public relations and image following the death of 74 fans in Port Said Stadium early this month.

Uganda's national team Coach Bobby Williamson said he will continue to handle the team and wait for the next preparations by the technical committee of the Federation.

"The few players are doing well in training and I hope the professional players join us over 48 hours before the away game in Brazzaville," said Williamson who has won the regional Council for East and Central Africa Football Association championship three times as coach of the Ugandan national team.
