A traveler in the Sahara desert who assumed himself kidnapped was rescued after sending an SMS to his brother in China.
On February 9, Lai Likun, of Guangdong Province, was traveling through Tunisia and found himself hopelessly lost. After hitching a ride with a passing car but unable to communicate with the driver, he feared he'd been kidnapped and started sending panicked text messages to his brother in China. Lai's brother then called police, who called the embassy, who rushed in to "rescue" Lai.
"The driver turned out to be a very kind person who just wanted to help me," Lai said.
