An unfortunate young man found himself lost in the wilderness near Guangzhou, Guangdong Province after getting cold feet during a less-than-resolute suicide attempt.

Ah Peng (pseudonym), a 28-year-old sufferer of multiple health problems hailing from Hunan Province, had moved to Guangzhou to look for work at the end of last year.

Failing in his attempts, he fell into a depression and decided to take his own life in the wild areas on the outskirts of the city.

Setting out on an unspecified date "sometime before Spring Festival," according to his statement taken after he was discovered.

He soon started to regret his decision and changed his mind.

By then, however, his phone had run out of battery and he'd thoroughly lost his way in the wilderness.

Subsisting on nothing more than a bottle of mineral water and a little food he could find in the wild, he ended up clinging tenaciously to life, so much so that when he was discovered on February 19, he was still alive, though too weak to move and had lost 15 kilograms.
