A steel bar plunged into the left eye of a worker, piercing his skull and protruding through his neck, during an accident at a worksite in Guangdong Province on Monday. Miraculously, the worker is not only still alive, but conscious.
The two tips of the steel bar could be seen protruding out of the man's skull as he was taken into the hospital. Baffled at how to treat such an unusual case, doctors called in the fire brigade, who set to work using a hydraulic cutting machine to slice the tips off the bar and allow doctors to remove it.
The patient's condition is still considered critical and he is still receiving medical treatment. Witnesses, however, reported that he looked "calm and sober" throughout the entire process.
