Shanghai has some 780,000 existing parking spaces in downtown areas, not nearly enough to serve the needs of local drivers, authorities said Thursday.
The city lacks some 367,000 spots, of which some 272,000 spaces are needed by downtown residents, while the remaining spots are in demand by commercial buildings.
