Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed on Monday his condolence for those died in the Brazilian night club fire, Kremlin press service reported.
Putin sent his condolences to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, saying the most tragic part of the incident was that the majority of the dead were young people.
The fire in the city of Santa Maria claimed the lives of more than 200 clubbers and wounded over one hundred others.
After the fatal incident, Santa Maria Mayor Cezar Schirmer declared a 30-day mourning period and Brazilian authorities decided to postpone an event celebrating the country's hosting of the 2014 World Cup.
Santa Maria is located at the southern tip of Brazil near the borders with Argentina and Uruguay. It is a major university city with a population of around a quarter of a million.
On December 5, 2009, a fire in a night club in the Russian city of Perm also claimed 156 lives.
