Egypt's Prosecutor-General Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah ordered Saturday to transfer about 2.68 million US dollars from the bank accounts of ex-president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons Gamal and Alaa to the state treasury, official al- Ahram online reported.
The prosecution's decision came to settle a case over gifts that Mubarak, his wife and their two sons allegedly received every year from the state-run al-Ahram newspaper from 2006 to 2011.
In June 2012, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Mubarak to life terms for charges of killing protesters in the 2011 demonstrations.
On January 13, the Court of Cassation accepted Mubarak's appeal and accordingly he will be retried. However, the retrial date has not been decided.
Mubarak has recently been transferred from the prison hospital to a nearby military hospital due to his deteriorating health condition.
