The Weinstein Company has announced that Olivier Dahan's biopic will be released on December 27 in North America during the last leg of the 2014 Oscars race.
Grace of Monaco, one of 2013's cinema highlights, marks the director's return to biographies after the worldwide success of La Vie en Rose (2007).
The movie will focus on the part the actress/princess played in the 1962 diplomatic crisis between the principality and Gaullist France.
Prince Albert said in a statement released by the royal palace of Monaco that the film contained "historical untruths" and "pure fictional."
Nicole Kidman will play the lead role and Tim Roth will play her husband, Prince Rainier III.
Parker Posey, Paz Vega and Frank Langella will also feature in the production.
