BMW, the world's largest luxury car maker is planning to debut a new concept version of the M5 at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, according to autoblog.com.

The new BMW M5 will be based on the latest 5 series and be tipped to carry a 600-horsepower version of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 put to work in the X5 M and X6 M crossovers, according to the site.

The auto site also said the 5 series hybrid will premier in the April show and go on sale before the end of 2011.

The BMW hybrid will be mated with a 306-horsepower turbo six with a 54-horsepower electric motor, the site said.

BMW expects double-digit growth in China, the world's largest auto market, to help fuel record sales this year.
