Official urges efforts to promote construction of clean gov''t

Chinese senior official He Guoqiang has called for strengthened efforts to promote the building of a clean government and address prominent problems complained by the people.

He, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the call during a five-day inspection tour that ended here on Thursday.

During his visit to the Shanghai Futures Exchange, he asked authorities to press ahead with the construction of a financial market system and beef up financial monitoring measures and safeguard financial security.

The official also called for college graduates to devote their knowledge and talents to the development of modern environmental-friendly agriculture and embrace innovation in agricultural technologies.

When visiting the site of the World Expo 2010, He expressed the hope for the organizing committee and the municipal government of Shanghai to turn the upcoming Expo into a clean and frugal gala.

Efforts should also be made to develop economy in a steady and relatively fast manner, optimize economic structure, upgrade capacity for independent innovation, promote the coordinated development of urban and rural areas and safeguard social harmony and stability, he stressed.
