Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood is visiting the Nepalese district of Mustang to spy on the activities of China, according to a Nepalese newspaper run by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (CNP) on Tuesday.

"A jumbo Indian team, including envoy Rakesh Sood, arrived in the mountainous district of Mustang on Friday to spy on China in the name of inspecting the progress of the development projects funded by the Indian government," the Janadisha daily was cited by the Times of India as saying.

The CNP also accused Sood of visiting the Chonhup Buddhist Temple in the sensitive upper Mustang region close to the Tibetan border, the report said.

In the 1950s, Khampa soldiers loyal to the Dalai Lama waged a guerrilla war against China-ruled Tibet from Mustang.

India has invested 25.6 billion rupees ($554,905) in more than 350 large and small projects in the education sector, health and infrastructure development of Nepal, The Himalayan Times reported Tuesday.
