Seed viruses arrive

A Chinese drugs firm has received seed viruses of A (H1N1) influenza from the World Health Organization (WHO), the State Food and Drug Administration said yesterday.

Hualan Biological Engineering Inc., the only firm qualified to produce pandemic vaccines, received the viruses from a WHO lab Wednesday night, Yin Hongzhang, head of the administration’s biology production office, told the Xinhua News Agency.

“Some other manufacturers that are qualified to produce seasonal flu vaccines also applied to the WHO for seed viruses and will get them soon,” he said.
