2 children killed

Two children died and four others were injured in the village of Qixing, Chongqing Municipality, yesterday when an abandoned culvert they were playing in collapsed on top of them.

Eight pupils from Qixing Primary School were playing in the culvert when it collapsed at about 1:20 pm due to a blasting operation at Jiangbei Airport, which is under construction, a local official said.

A 13-year-old boy died at the scene, and another child, as yet unidentified, died later in hospital.

Four children are being treated for “non-life-threatening” injuries in hospital, the official said.
