4 detained for factory blast

Four people have been detained for illegally storing explosives at a factory owned by the Jingxin Mining Company in Anhui Province, where an explosion killed 16 people Sunday, officials said yesterday.

The four were: general manager Cao Peijun, his son and deputy general manager Cao Shun, production deputy chief Li Guangquan, and the deputy general manager of Dengbao Mining Company Sun Jiancheng, Wang Tuqiang, vice-mayor of Chuzhou, who is leading the investigation, said.

Also yesterday, Fan Dijun, the head of the Fengyang county government, said that all of the families of the victims would each receive 300,000 yuan ($44,000) in compensation, and not 250,000 yuan as was announced Monday, the Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.
