Polluters shut down

The Environmental Protection Bureau of Guangdong Province has closed down 1,093 corporations for emitting pollutants in the first 10 months.

A bureau official said they have strengthened efforts against polluting firms. Some 388 million yuan ($55.6 million) in fines were imposed.

The official said the environment of the region has improved.
