The number of people applying to take next month's civil service examinations is expected to increase dramatically due to a severe shortage of stable jobs.
There will be 15,000 positions for departments and units affiliated with the Central Government available, up 2,000 from last year. Both students and workers with existing jobs are applying for the November 29 exam. The registration period opened Thursday and people could register for the exam until October 24.
A student surnamed Song who will graduate from a master's degree program in 2011, said a third of his classmates had already applied for the provincial civil exam.
Another student surnamed Wang, who just started his first year master's degree program in Fujian Province, told Strait News Thursday that he was willing to abandon his studies if hired.
"If I pass the interview, I will definitely go to work. And I will invite all my classmates to have dinner to celebrate my success," the student said.
