Fireworks producers must clearly indicate the names of their products, the date of production, the guaranteed period in which to use, and detailed instructions on how to enjoy the product safely.
Liu Maowen, the manager of Liaoyuan Fireworks Company in Liuyang, Hunan Province, told the Global Times Monday that he has not yet received the notice from authorities.
"The new standard is helpful to remind fireworks players of personal safety," Liu said. "People tend to lose control after getting drunk and it's dangerous for drunk people to set off fireworks."
Liu said his company would abide by the new regulation and slap a warning notice about not using it while drunk.
Wei Wei, a fireworks retailer at a roadside stall in Wulian county, Shandong Province, told the Global Times that he had never seen such warnings on the packages of fireworks.
"It sounds weird to forbid people to set off fireworks after getting drunk, because it's natural for people to drink some wine during the Spring Festival and then set off some firecrackers to celebrate the lunar New Year," Wei said.
China produces and consumes about 90 percent of the world's fireworks. Retail sales hit more than 23 billion yuan ($3.36 billion) in 2008, and it has grown an average of 10 percent annually in recent years, Sun Huashan, vice director of the State Administration of Work Safety, said at a forum in May.
