Milk officials charged

Police have concluded an investigation into a Shanghai company that manufactured contaminated milk and milk powder, and handed over the management team to the prosecutor's office for criminal prosecution, prosecutors said Tuesday.

In a government inspection tour in April, the Shanghai Panda Dairy Company was found producing milk powder and condensed milk with unacceptably high levels of melamine, which can cause kidney stones and kidney failure.

The government shut down the company and sealed up all its stocks. No damages were caused, the police said.

The corporate representative of the company, general manager and deputy general manager had been arrested following the discovery.
