A poll released on huanqiu.com shows that about 85 percent of domestic respondents believe that Chinese worship money more than any other nation.
The poll was conducted on Wednesday, following a Reuters/Ipsos poll revealing that citizens of South Korea, Japan and China were the most likely to say money is more important to them now than before.
Reuters also said young people in all three countries particularly emphasize the importance of money and see it as a sign of success.
When asked whether China is the No.1 money worshiping country on huanqiu's poll, 85.7 percent of web users agreed, while only 14.3 percent disagreed.
"It is true. You can't do almost anything without money, especially in some government bureaus," an anonymous voter wrote a post behind the poll.
Some respondents said they are reduced to being slaves to money because of the rising property prices in China. Others treat money critically and believe that it is both an incentive to drive people work and a narcotic that keeps them passive.
