About 1,000 rescuers made up of armed policemen, firefighters and medical workers joined the effort. In addition, they are getting help from eight sniffing dogs and over 100 bulldozers and excavators, according to the spokeswoman.
The provincial health bureau dispatched 100 ambulances and 200 medical workers.
The rain will continue in west Guizhou over the next three days and that could complicate their work, China Metrological Administration said. They set up a special team to provide instant weather reports to help the rescuers.
According to a map showing risky spots, experts warned that more landslides were possible, CCTV reported Tuesday.
Over 1,000 people were transferred to safer places. The provincial civil affairs bureau sent 222 tents, 1,000 quilts and 5,000 pieces of clothing, according to the spokeswoman.
"Villagers have been organized and transferred to temporary tents. We are also offering instant noodles, cookies and water. We have no other worries now," Chen Xinbing, Party secretary in Bawan village, which neighbors Dazhai, told the Global Times Tuesday.
Chen added that the village sits between mountains and landslides are common in summer.
"The landslide this time is the biggest I have ever seen," he said in a hoarse voice. "It happened so suddenly that it was hard to escape."
