A college girl in Shaanxi Province is sueing Bank of China for disease discrimination during her job-hunting on April 25, the China Youth Daily reportedon Wednesday.
Course senior Feng Jing (pseudonym), who will graduate from Xi'an International Studies University this July, received an admission letter from Bank of China Shaanxi Province Branch on January this year for a position.
She then underwent a physical examination at Xi'an No.4 Hospital on January 22 and signed a tripartite agreement, with the HR department of the bank and the university.
Two days later, a man surnamed Liu from the HR department informed Feng that her examination result shows she is a hepatitis C carrier. And according to their standard for entry into the institution, they would need to terminate the contract.
Feng soon afterwards, returned to Xi'an No.4 Hospital and First Affiliated Hospital to Xi'an Jiaotong University for a recheck, which again proved her to be a carrier of the disease, however having other liver functions working normally. The hospitals also issued a certification that her hepatitis C is non-contagious by human contact, but the bank still remained reluctant to hire her.
She filed a lawsuit to the people's court in Xincheng district of the city on April 25, demanding a written apology and 80,000 yuan ($12,300) in compensation for moral injury.
