Shanghai gets set to celebrate its fright night

Halloween is in the air - ghosts, witches and jack-o'-lanterns are upon us.

Shocked by the overpriced Halloween costume in downtown boutiques?

Head to the wholesale markets near the Yuyuan Garden for the customer-friendly and reasonably priced masks, costumes, makeup and props of all shapes and sizes - from pumpkin lanterns to vampire fangs, from pointed hats to bleeding hands and legs.

You can find a fine array of Halloween gadgets and decorations there and the prices are super negotiable.

Fall is the season of harvest, abundance and, apparently, fun pumpkin activities.

One farm in Jinshan district has piled up a pumpkin stack with thousands of pumpkins to attract tourists.

The largest of these pumpkins weighs as much as a child and only a gold medal-winning weightlifter could lift this on his own.

Shanghai Disneytown is also celebrating Halloween with special decorations, live music and dance routines with spirited but ghoulish performers.

Mickey and Minnie will be wearing Halloween costumes for the first time and will perform on Disneytown's lakeshore. There will also be a range of festive activities including trick or treating, pumpkin carving and face painting.

There will also be six picture booths scattered throughout the park where you and your friends can get a special photographic memory of the once-a-year event.
