Dockers carry feed bags at the pier of Gwadar Port, southwestern Pakistan, on May 11, 2015. Gwadar Port, a warm-water, deep-sea port, is located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf in Gwadar of Pakistan's Baloschistan province. China and Pakistan agreed to build China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to connect the Pakistani port with Kashgar city in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It will shorten China's routes of oil and gas imports from Africa and the Middle East for thousands of kilometers, making Gwadar a potentially vital link in China's supply chain. Construction of the port began in 2002 with China's investment and technical support. After Gwadar Port is completed, it will boost Pakistan's economy and become a crucial port for landlocked Central Asian countries, such as Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and a transfer center of those countries' cargo transportation to countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq and other destinations.
