Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her "deep shock " and condolences over the train accident in India in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened at the tragic death of so many people and injury of scores others in a train accident in Uttar Pradesh in India," Hasina said in a message to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

"On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, and on my own behalf, I express my deepest condolences ... our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families," reads the message to Modi.

In one of the deadliest train accidents since 2010, at least 91 people were killed and more than 150 others injured after an express train derailed in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh early Sunday morning.
