China Ethnic Song & Dance Ensemble kicks off winter performing season this weekend

A total of 17 performances  will be staged at the Minzu Theater in Beijing by the China Ethnic Song & Dance Ensemble during its winter performing season, the ensemble's director Ding Wei announced at a press conference on Friday.

"This is the third year that we have launched our annual winter performing season. This year, we will have various kinds of performances, such as dance dramas Seven Feet and Journey to the West," said Ding.

"Seven Feet will be a special show, because we hope to bring something innovative and full of vigor." 

Dance drama Journey to the West, to be staged at the Minzu Theater on Friday and Saturday, will present audiences with the long and lonely journey to India through the eyes of the monk Xuanzang.

In addition to dance performances, concerts will also number among the 17  performances.

One such concert, Blossoming Mawei Flower, will present Yi ethnic folk songs sung by children living on from Daliangshan Mountain in Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Additionally, the China Ethnic Song & Dance Ensemble will work with a local song and dance company from Southwest China's Guizhou Province to present new dance drama Tian Chan Di Nuo on December 28 and 29.

According to Ding, Tian Chan Di Nuo is a romantic story that will be presented using the music of the Dong ethnic minority group.
