To promote Chinese culture overseas, the Chinese Ministry of Culture's Bureau for External Cultural Relations kicked off a workshop in Beijing on Sunday.

The week-long workshop aims to cultivate a group of unified, specialized and internationalized elites trained in translation and the promotion of China's performing arts.

More than 150 trainees from all over China are taking part in the workshop, which includes a series of lectures about policy, business and translation, as well as salons where trainees can share their experiences.

"Translation is a key issue as Chinese culture is 'going out into the world,'" Li Jinsheng, Party chief of China Arts and Entertainment Group, pointed out at the opening.

"When translating promotional materials for audiences overseas, we need to achieve the standards of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance," Li said, discussing the challenges facing Chinese performing arts overseas.
