A series of live performances such as ballet, classic concerts and operas as well as documentary screenings and literature salons from Chinese artists and writers will take place in Germany throughout 2017 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-German diplomatic relations.

The China Heute cultural project will work with various German art and music festivals to present Chinese performance and contemporary art in Germany this year, according to China's Ministry of Culture, which is also organizing the project.

Xie Jinying, director of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Culture, said at a press conference on Wednesday that "culture and art are universal languages and bridges that can help people in different countries to understand and communicate with each other. The China Heute will help increase Germans' understanding of China and deepen the friendship between the two countries."

As part of the celebrations, the National Ballet of China and the Hamburg Ballet will stage Soul of Crane in Hamburg in July as part of the city's Hamburg Ballet Days. Additionally, a collection of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasty portraits will be on display at the Staatliche Museen Zu Berlin in October.
