Almost one week ahead of the 7th Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF), the 24th Beijing College Student Film Festival opened its doors on Saturday with romance comedy This is Not What I Expected as its opening film.

The first directorial work of Hong Kong filmmaker Derek Hui, who has worked as a film editor for the past decade, This is Not What I Expected boasts veteran Hong Kong director Peter Chan as executive producer.

Co-hosted by institutions including Beijing Normal University's School Of Art And Communication, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the China Film Foundation, the student film festival is scheduled to run until early May.

Over the years, the festival has grown past being a tradition for college students in the capital to include more and more universities and colleges outside Beijing. Currently the festival will include screenings and forums at 22 universities across China.
