Developed and launched in 2011 by Chinese tech giant Tencent, the instant messaging application WeChat is especially popular with youngsters in the age group of 15 and 29 who cherish its free functions including texting, voice and video calls. 

But with this phenomenal growth, WeChat has also brought numerous complaints among its diverse community of users, with the most vocal ranging from the over-abundance of selfies to scammers. To find out what expats in Shanghai find most annoying about using Chinese social media, the Global Times recently asked four foreigners to tick off their ticks.
