Chinese director Lu Yang announced in Beijing on Tuesday that his latest film Warfield of Shura (修罗战场), a sequel to 2014's Brotherhood of Blades (绣春刀), has been scheduled to hit screens in the Chinese mainland on August 11, right in the middle of China's competitive summer movie season.

The new work, which sees talented director Ning Hao make his debut as an executive producer, follows Shen Lian (Taiwan actor Chang Chen), a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) imperial guard, as he searches for the truth behind a conspiracy that framed him, his colleague Pei Lun and a young woman named Bei Zhai (mainland actress Yang Mi).

Lu's Brotherhood of Blades earned the young director a good reputation in the industry. The film has a 7.4/10 on Chinese media review site Douban and Chinese movie site Mtime.

Most reviews of the film commended the movie's costumes and the director's attention to historic details that helped the film feel more realistic.

Lu noted that his team intends to maintain this attention to detail in the new film.

"Our team carried out a lot of historical research to create these characters. This will also be the modern debut for many of the weapons in the film," he said.
