Bamboo and Rattan for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia Provisional Agenda took place at the Philippines Embassy in Beijing on April 21, drawing the participation of diplomats, government officials, media and international organizations. Jointly organized by the Philippines Embassy in Beijing, the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) and Zizhuyuan Park, the event was held to mark Earth Day as well as discuss the topics associated with the Bamboo and Rattan for Sustainable Development Agenda in Southeast Asia. Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana, the Ambassador of Philippines to China, gave a speech in which he noted the positive contributions of bamboo and rattan to climate change mitigation and adaptation and their increasing resilience to natural disasters. The ambassador also praised INBAR for their initiative of reaching out to Southeast Asian countries with the aim of further developing bamboo and rattan resources in the region. Wang Chunfeng, Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation, State Forestry Administration of China and Hans Friederich, Director General of INBAR also gave a speech.
