China Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble releases plans for Spring Performance Season

The China Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble, one of China's most prestigious performing troupes for ethnic minority art, announced the program for its upcoming Spring Performance Season on Sunday, also the ensemble's Open Day in Beijing. 

According to ensemble president Ding Wei, this was the ensemble's fourth Open Day, which gives audiences the chance to get a close look at and even play traditional music instruments used by ethnic minority groups in China.

In addition to this, the ensemble also provided short lectures on performance art and held example performances for the performance season. 

A total of four performances, mainly dance dramas, will be staged during the Spring Performance Season.

Qushui Song, which will be held Monday night, tells a romantic story that takes place on Southwest China's Wuling Mountain, which is home to China's Tujia and Miao ethnic minorities.

Thursday will see a restaged version of the troupe's dance drama, Tsangyang Gyatso.

The dance drama follows the life of Tibetan musician and poet Tsangyang Gyatso (1683-1706) and has been staged more than 40 times across the country since its debut in 2015.

The following night will see a performance of the concert Ode to Prairie as part of the ensemble's celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of North China's  Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
