Shanghai police recently busted 31 telecom scammers who set up hideouts overseas. This marked the first time Shanghai police successfully tracked down overseas telecom fraud gangs to their source.

The gang was led by a Taiwanese suspect who recruited members from the Chinese mainland to pretend to be public security officers to swindle mainlanders.

Since February, Shanghai police caught 18 suspects of this gang in Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan and Hubei provinces.

Shanghai Telecommunications and Online Fraud Squad also found a member of another gang hiding out in Europe. After he returned to China to recruit members, he was apprehended.

Through him, Shanghai police found the scam gang led by four Taiwanese suspects who organized mainland citizens to live abroad just to commit telecom fraud. When the Taiwanese gang recruited members February, Shanghai police caught another 13 suspects.
