Officials to probe claim

French rugby officials said Sunday they would investigate claims by Stade Francais that Montpellier lock Jacques Du Plessis should not have played in their final game of the regular season.

Montpellier edged Stade 27-26 on Saturday, meaning the Parisians finished seventh, one spot off the top six teams who now advance to the playoffs.

But Stade argue that Montpellier replacement Du Plessis should not have played because he received a third yellow card in the previous week, which normally results in automatic suspension. The national rugby league said its disciplinary committee would examine the case on Wednesday.
