The Shanghai Dramatic Art Centre will stage nine dramas including Noises Off, Doubt: A Parable, Uncle Vanya and Chen Tingjing for its upcoming performance season in Beijing from August to October, the center announced on Saturday.

The performance season will kick off with Uncle Vanya, the latest collaboration between the center and Russian director Adolf Shapiro.

One of the most well-known plays by Russian writer and playwright Anton Chekhov in China, it is an important part of the center's New Classics series, which has been working to interpret Western classics for Chinese audiences since 2013.

Original drama Chen Tingjing is a dramatic adaptation of popular writer Wang Yuewen's novel Premier of Qing Dynasty. The play focuses on the life of the titular Chen, a real life Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) official who was famous for his honesty, and follows him throughout his over 50-year career.

The play, which first premiered in 2016 to rave reviews, will be staged at the Beijing People's Art Theatre in August.

According to a report by Global People in 2014, the novel was recommended by Wang Qishan, Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, to his colleagues after he finished his term as mayor of Beijing in 2007.
