Britain's Jenson Button is to make his Super GT debut for Team Mugen at the Suzuka 1000 kilometers on August 27, the team announced Friday.

Button, who will do testing on the Suzuka circuit on June 6 and 7, retired from Formula One at the end of last season, although he stepped in to replace Fernando Alonso for McLaren-Honda at the Monaco Grand Prix.

"After driving an NSX Concept-GT at Honda Racing Thanks Day last December, I became interested in racing in Super GT," said Button, the 2009 F1 champion.

"I spoke with Honda and they have given me the chance to race at the Suzuka 1000 kilometers.

Button will be partnered in the GT500 car by regular Mugen drivers Hideki Mutoh and Daisuke Nakajima.
