The Philippine government said on Wednesday that it respects China's decision to investigate corruption allegations against Chinese tycoon Huang Rulun, who has been a generous donor of drug rehabilitation facilities in the Philippines.

"That is of course internal to China and rest assured that President [Rodrigo] Duterte is one with the president of the People's Republic of China in its drive against corruption," Marie Banaag, Philippine presidential communication assistant secretary, was quoted by news outlet Rappler as saying Wednesday.

Huang, chairman of real estate developer Century Golden Resources Group, has reportedly been under investigation for bribery allegations.

The Chinese billionaire has become a celebrity in both countries after he donated millions in drug rehabilitation centers to the Philippines, drawing praise from Philippine officials, including Duterte, who called Huang a "good Samaritan."

Banaag denied that the Philippine president or his office knew about the allegations against Huang before accepting his donations, adding the outcome of the investigation is all "up to China."
