Pudong New Area police arrested a criminal ring for mislabeling domestic fruits as imported fruits at markets in Pudong New Area and Qingpu district, according to the Xinmin Evening News.

In March, an imported fruits trading company tipped off Pudong police that a fruit market in Pudong was selling imported fruits that the company distributed to China.

After an investigation, police found that some shops in the market were selling Chinese fruits as imported fruits by placing fake labels on produce.

The profit made from a marked-up price, often as high as five times the original price, attracted merchants to place fake labels on their fruit.

Nine suspects were detained for making and selling fake registered trademarks.
