The curtain will rise on the 15th Asia Arts Festival in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang Province, on September 23, China's Ministry of Culture announced in Beijing Tuesday.

According to Xie Jinying, director of the General Bureau for External Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Culture, this year's event will focus on the city of Ningbo's rise from an old  and sprawling port along the ancient Maritime Silk Road to an important port in the modern world. Dozens of events will be staged around the city over the following four weeks.

In addition to performances and visual art exhibitions, another event, the Lancang-Mekong Culture Forum, is expected to be attended by the ministers of culture from China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam. The forum aims to establish a cultural exchange platform for countries along the Lancang-Mekong River.

Xu Yanan, vice mayor of Ningbo, said that Ningbo, which was named as cultural capital of east Asia in 2017, will host the festival with all of its best cultural elements.
