Police in Southwest China's Guizhou Province fined a man after video of him allowing his 1-year-old daughter to drive a car went viral.

The man, who was not identified, was slapped with a 250 yuan ($37) ticket in the city of Tongren after police noticed the video making the rounds on social media.

In the livestreamed clip on Friday, the child is seen sitting on her father's lap and gripping the steering wheel as the vehicle travels on a desolate country road.

Numerous times the child turns to look at her mother in the passenger seat, who is taking the video.

The couple can be heard saying "watch the road" to the child and laughing.

An investigation led officers to the man, who was fined for allowing a child to operate a vehicle, local police said on Tuesday.

The man told officers that he had placed his daughter on his lap because her crying and screaming proved too much for his pregnant wife to handle.

He also claimed to have been holding the wheel with his left hand the whole time and did not know his wife was taking video.

The man also had five points deducted from his license for the violation.
