At least 13 Indian army troopers were injured Friday after a vehicle carrying them skidded off a road and fell into a gorge in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The accident took place in Karwa village of mountainous Reasi district, about 260 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Today a vehicle carrying army men skidded off road near Karwa village and fell into gorge injuring 13 troopers," a police official posted in the district said.

"All the injured soldiers were admitted in the nearby hospital and are now in stable condition."

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.

Indian Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said 150,000 people died in half million accidents every year in country.
