A Hebei Province man has been detained after his model plane flew out of control and onto a high-speed train track, causing a more than 20-minute delay.

The man surnamed Pang had been flying his homemade aircraft above Luanxian county near Tangshan when it suddenly fell from the sky and onto the tracks of an oncoming Beijing-Qinhuangdao train, Beijing Railway Police told media.

The crash caused the Taiyuan-bound G2604 train from Shenyang to be delayed for 22 minutes, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Friday.

Pang told officers he had lost control of the craft near the rail line.

He was detained but not officially charged as of press time. An investigation is underway.

Flight of low-altitude aircraft, such as model planes and drones, is banned within 500 meters of rail lines.
